Documentation zone file generator GestiĆ³IPs incorporated zone file generator permits to create DNS forward and reverse zones files (IPv4/IPv6) for the the name server products BIND and tinydns on the basis of the networks and hosts which are managed by GestiĆ³IP. This zone files can be manually copied to use them with your DNS servers. It supports IPv4 networks with bitmasks >= /16 as well as IPv6 networks with prefix lengths <= /64. Reverse zones files for IPv4 networks with bitmasks bigger than /24 are not supported. To access to the zone file generator click over the new "Z"-button from network change/delete view or from host list view. It is available for rootnetworks as well as for endnetworks. Options: * DNS server type: Choose the name server product for which the zone file should be created. * domain: insert the domain for which the zone file should be created. Without a domain value, all entries will be created for the domain "example.org". * serial - Zone file serial number (YYMMDDnn) * refresh - refresh value (default: 24h) * retry - retry value (default: 2h) * expire - expire value (default: 1000h) * minimum - minimum TTL value (default: 2d) * TTL - Zone default TTL value. (default: 1h) (see http://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-203 for further information of the meaning of this values and for the default values) * Nameserver (master) - Master nameserver * Nameserver (slave) - Slave nameserver * Mailserver I - First mailserver * Mailserver II - Second mailserver * ignore "unknown" entries - If the discovery and update functions can't determine a hostname/DNS entry for a IP address which responds to "ping, it will be added with the hostname "unknown". With this option marked, the zone file generator ignores this types of entries. * Ignore out-of-zone data - With this option checked, entries which are out-of-zone will be ignored. E.g. your domain is "example.org" and you have a host entry "server.example.com", this entry will be ignored. * create generic reverse entries for - With this option checked there will be generic PTR entries created (e.g. 1-0-168-192.example.org). This option is only available for IPv4 networks. - all addresses - With this option the generic PTR entries will be created for all IP addresses - free addresses - With this option the generic PTR entries will only be generated for free addresses. The PTR entries for occupied addresses will correspond to their A entry. Note: With checked "create generic reverse entries for" option, zone file generation for big networks (e.g. IPv4 networks with a bitmask of /16) will take a while. * create reverse zone files for all networks - The default behaviour of the zone file generator is to create only zone files for the existing networks. With this option checked it will create reverse zone files for all networks with a bitmask of /24 within a rootnetwork. This option is only available for IPv4 rootnetworks. Note: Unspecified values for "domain", "nameserver" and "mailserver" will be filled with exemplary values (appearing in gray font color). Replace that values if you want to use the zone files for the nameserver of your organization.
